Early treatment: when to see an orthodontist?
Crossbite, pronounced overbite or thumb sucking: why an early look at dental development can spare later treatment.
Many parents ask us when a visit to the orthodontist makes sense. Our answer: with noticeable misalignments, as early as kindergarten age or the start of school.
Typical reasons for early treatment are a crossbite, a greatly increased overbite, a protruding lower jaw, an open bite caused by thumb sucking, or the early loss of baby teeth.
At this stage we can often achieve a lot with very simple appliances. Later, more complex corrections can frequently be avoided.
